Who are we?

The YMCG is a fellowship of young married couples under the leadership of the Patuxent River Assembly of God.

What do we believe?

We hold the same core beliefs as the church. Our purpose is exemplified by Matthew 22:37-40 and Matthew 28:19-20: Loving God, Loving One Another, and Reaching Out and Becoming Mature Disciples. Our mission is defined in 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, as Reconciling Men to God And to One Another. Our vision is explained in Luke 4:18-19, as Discipling Believers Into the Works of Jesus.

Why do we meet?

We are convinced that a strong foundation built early in your marriage can lay the groundwork for years of happiness, peace, and fruitful service in the Kingdom of our Father. Discipling new families like yours can help you avoid common mistakes, and embrace a powerful unity as a couple that you would otherwise struggle to find.

Who can attend?

We welcome any recently married couples. We currently have couples married from just a few months up to several years. Your own age is not important, but we do prefer to focus on recent marriages.

Can you attend if you are not a church member?

Yes! We happily welcome any married couples, even from outside our church. We are unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and teach from a strong Biblical foundation, without apology. So we will be glad to have your fellowship even if you have not yet welcomed Jesus Christ as your Savior, but we won't pull any punches! Marriage was designed by God Himself to model the relationship of Jesus to the Church, so understanding and accepting Jesus' leadership is the real key to a successful and fruitful marriage.

Can you attend if you're not married quite yet?

We ask that you first get connected with the PRAG leadership for pre-marital counseling. It is excellent in its coverage and scope, and will lay some really good groundwork for joining our group. You're welcome to get involved with our weekly group as soon as you're married - and we'd love to see your wedding photo album and honeymoon pictures (every so often we bring our albums and share)!

What do we teach?

We cover a lot of different topics. To lay a strong foundation, we use such marriage-specific materials as The Five Love Languages, Love and Respect, and Affair-Proofing Your Marriage. From this foundation, we also cover many areas of value to young couples such as the Crown Financial Seminar, and training in personally hearing the voice of God.

Do we do anything other than study?

Of course! We get together regularly for plain old fun, including dinners together, fun excursions like bonfires on the beach or laser tag matches, reminiscing like looking at our wedding albums, and other oddball meetings like helping couples move or meeting other group needs.

How about child care?

A lot of our younger families have very young children now, so it's very common for us to arrange childcare for the meetings. If you need childcare to be able to participate, please contact one of the leaders and discuss this in person.

Meetings are typically held once a week, usually at either of the leaders' homes, and usually Tuesdays.
